CHEN:It’s always important to have good manners. But a Viennese dance teacher taking it one step further. He’s urging football fans to mind their manners on the sidelines during the Euro 2008 football tournament.STORY:It’s known as a city of art and music, culture and sophistication. The football fan.Thousands of supporters have descended on the Austrian capital and other host cities across Austria and Switzerland to watch Euro 2008. Football fans aren’t really renowned for their good manners.But Thomas Schaefer-Elmayer, who runs this Vienna dance school and is seen as a local authority on style and good taste, insists there’s still a place for etiquette on the terraces:[Thomas Schaefer-Elmayer, Dance School Teacher]:”I think the players themselves are behaving most of the time much better than the spectators.”And good manners aren’t just about behavior. While the players are often well-turned out, it’s a different story for the fans.Schaefer-Elmayer thinks soccer supporters should also pay attention to their appearance.”When I see sometimes when they take off their t-shirts, this should be avoided, you should at least stay dressed and be aware of the influence that your dress or your appearance has on the entire ambiance around you.”While there’s no comparing the ballroom with the football pitch - the Viennese think fans watching the game have no excuse for leaving their manners on the sidelines.
